Midweek Assessment

February 9, 2006 by threadingwater

Sunday night:  Greatest Husband arrives home from his weekend race, tired, not happy with his race, but happy to come home to a fire blazing in the fireplace, dinner on the stove and an old Spencer Tracy movie the super bowl on the TV.

Later Sunday night:  GH checks the state website for race results and discovers he won a SILVER medal in his 42k race and age group.  I tell him he has proven his worth once again even though my love is not performance-based.

Much later Sunday:  Rushing to finish Red Filly and still sorting through yarn and supplies for Madrona Fiber Retreat in Tacoma.  Departure is Thursday morning for long weekend with BlueGal, akabini, Yarn Harlot, Cat Bordhi and so, so many others.

Monday:  Discover problems with printer’s proof of my latest work project.  Good news – not my fault.  Bad news – fault embedded in $150 template purchased to make my life easier.

Monday, late:  Still cataloging Madrona necessities.  Red Filly gets her hook and eye closures.

Tuesday: Greatest Husband’s computer catches a virus and dishwasher breaks – both are discovered before I’ve had my morning coffee, thus doubling their impact to near catastrophic proportions.

Tuesday night: Disassemble dishwasher.  Parts scattered across kitchen floor.  Put dishwasher back together.  It works.  I fix a wee celebratory drink and then forget that I need to translate my Norwegian Olympic pattern before leaving for Tacoma Thursday morning.

Tuesday late:  Look at piles and piles of yarn and needles.  Make no decisions. Translate nothing.  Fix another wee drink.

Wednesday early:  Translate Norwegian knitting pattern.  Odds that I have translated it correctly? Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Later:  Print job turns out OK.  Overnight 100 brochures and inserts to recipient for on-time delivery of project.  Celebrate by visiting new LYS on my lunch hour to beef-up circular needle stash.  Owner wants to stay in touch with me regarding teaching opportunities.

Much later:  Madrona yarn and needles out of control. Red Filly is complete. Do I pack tonight, or wait until morning?

think I’ll fix a wee drink, then decide

catch you all next week

Oh man. What a summary, what a week! I’m in Seattle and willing to run down fresh supplies at a moment’s notice should you run out… or if you, say, forget to pack underwear a la Harlot.

Please Daphne, we never wear our panties to a party…

Hmmm…three kids or dishwasher parts….three kids or dishwasher parts…..

And hubby: “What do I eat for breakfast while you’re gone?”

I forgot to add the part about ripping off one-quarter of my fingernail while cleaning and repairing the heated birdbath. Like they even deserve it, those fickle urban seed sluts. Still throbbing, but I can knit!

Three kids easily trump dishwasher parts and a computer virus, but I’m telling you, BG, . . . oh, nevermind. I’ll save it for when I see you IN PERSON.

Daphne, you going to be at Madrona?

    My dear child…

A torn fingernail? At this stage? That’s a handicap akin to Sonja Henie contracting a blister!

    I will alert the media.

    Meanwhile,…
    3 grocery bags later,
we should be good to go.

All will be well, and all manner of things shall be well
as soon as you two get your panties here!

Ooooh, you teaching….Sign me up…Which LYS?? Loop?
Hope you have fun with your pals on the West Coast…And May the tough Russian judge give you a 9.9 in your Olympic efforts.

I think it was a cursed week all around. I’m a longtime threadingwater fan but first-time thread-adder. For what it’s worth, things were kind of lousy in St. Louis, too. Good thing I don’t knit or I’d probably have poked someone in a place I oughtn’t have. Trying to pull the spirits up by their bootstraps this weekend.

    That felt bag is dreamy.
