The View From the Veranda May 29, 2006

First, you get the pretty picture.

Then, the update on the backyard landscaping project.

By Friday night, I had built the fieldstone wall, layed out the timbers for the raised bed configuration and placed the lannon stone border around the curved edge of what will be the kitchen herb garden.

This is how things are shaping up.  Two gardens in.  Two to go.

That's the good news.  The bad news is that temperatures in the 90's yesterday and today have made physical labor unbearable until late afternoon, slowing down progress considerably.

The lure of cold lemonade on the veranda, ( ok – champagne) and dinner with my visiting DIL and other assorted loved ones, also interrupted the work flow.  But, hey, what are holiday weekends for, anyway?

Special greetings to the gang in Port Townsend, and a heartfelt thanks to all veterans and their families this Memorial Day.

Thinking of you, too, dad, and remembering all that you sacrificed in service to this country.
