Knitters Like Bill September 24, 2006

Don’t take it from me.  Marketers have started to verify what I and many of my knitting friends have remarked upon over the years.  That is, knitters as a general rule, seem to share not only a love of fiber, texture and wonkiness over patterns, shaping and technique – but we also share a progressive political viewpoint.

Are we just smarter than the average bear?  Undoubtedly.  But, could there be a true cause and effect behind this intriguing correlation?

Why wait to find out?  Knitters, get thee to a classroom and start signing up recruits.  Or, how about knitting training camps outside Target stores to snag all those “swing” voters?  The very future of our planet might depend upon the wielding of pointy sticks and an addiction to the feel and scent of lanolin.

Anyone else watch Clinton this morning on FOX?  Tell me again how someone that smart sacrificed so much over an affair with an intern.  He served up Chris Wallace’s ratty ass on a platter – with finesse – then got blasted for being “angry.”

Since when is righteous anger a reaction to be ridiculed?  Oh, wait.  I know the answer to that one.  Righteous anger is always wrong when it’s directed at the Right.

i’ve noticed that fiber artists tend to be more liberal-spinners, knitters, crocheters alike. Perhaps our creative process makes us amenable to critical thinking and compassion, or perhaps it’s the other way ’round-either way, it’s good to know i’m in good company.
