No one looks forward to holiday air travel, so the specter of traveling across the country on the evening of Christmas Eve seemed especially fraught with misery-inflicting possibilities.
Surprise! It wasn’t.
Flights were on-time. Airline personnel were pleasant, helpful and downright cheery. No missed connections. No lost luggage.
Oh, ok. There was the little pissant bloke at the rental car counter, bad directions from MapQuest and a Super 8 motel on the outskirts of Spokane that will never see our faces again. Otherwise? A fairly sweet and trouble-free excursion.
We arrived at our Methow Valley destination early afternoon Christmas Day, in time for a ski before dark. This place is spectacular – both the lodge where we are staying for the week, and the beauty of the valley itself.
After breakfast this morning, we hit the trails for two hours – me on my skate skis and Greatest Husband on his classic skis. We had some fun with the video camera and, if YouTube and my slow wireless connection allow, I may be able to post a short video later today.
Meanwhile, I give you this and hope everyone out there is finding something that makes them feel as happy and alive as I do in this photo.
