Please tell the Colonel what to do with his pink bucket of fat, cholesterol, sodium and carcinogens.
This campaign has to be a new low in corporate branding. The more cancer-chicken-in-a-bucket you buy, the more gets donated to finding a cancer cure. Regular readers know I’m not a fan of Komen, and fundraising campaigns like this are the main reason. Many women with breast cancer have received help and support from their local Komen chapters and would arm wrestle me to the floor in defense of this organization. I respect that. I know there are good programs under the Komen banner that have helped women deal with this disease.
At some point, however, Komen has to be held accountable for forming partnerships with corporations who tie their donations to the sale of food or other products that undermine healthy lifestyle choices, or out and out contribute to rising rates of cancer.
Please, please, please . . . Think Before You Pink!

I am glad someone dared to write this. I agree with you 100%
After we met via, Blue Gal, I stopped support of Komen and now wonder what to do.
David – a couple of suggestions. If you previously donated to Komen, but no longer do, let them know why. I also suggest donating locally to a hospital, medical center or community health organization. Finally, I support Breast Cancer Action, a group you can learn about by following the “Think Before You Pink” link in the right hand column of this page.
JoAnn – Thank you! I’ve been writing on this subject for several years. So nice to know we agree on something, don’t you think? I do.
Wow after watching that commercial I need a bucket. To barf in. Sheesh! They have absolutely no shame.
What the Cluck? Tell KFC and Susan G. Komen for the Cure to stop pinkwashing!
With their “Buckets for the Cure” campaign, KFC and Susan G. Komen for the Cure are telling us to buy buckets of unhealthy food to cure a disease that kills women. When a company purports to care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribboned product, but manufactures products that are linked to the disease, we call that pinkwashing. Make no mistake–every pink bucket purchase will do more to benefit KFC’s bottom line than it will to cure breast cancer. Join us in telling KFC and Susan G. Komen for the Cure to rethink this pinkwashing partnership.
