because it’s there . . .
I spent all day working on size 000 needles learning this intarsia-in-the-round technique. (non-knitters, think toothpick, only smaller) Who could imagine a day of knitting so physically and mentally exhausting?
The class was Susanna Hansson’s “Lapland Hand Garments – The Mittens from Rovaniemi.” Having seen some of these Sami and Lap artifacts when living and traveling in Norway, it was fairly amazing to revisit that experience by recreating it in my hands.
And, now it’s late. My little sample of Sami knitting is tucked away and my head is full of fibery excursions. From the Pacific Northwest to Nordmarka and back, the circle is completing itself. There’s still a mountain outside my window and one more day of Madrona ahead.
These are the colors I’ll be dreaming in tonight.
