Re-entry

August 11, 2008 by threadingwater

After nearly three weeks without

  • television
  • Internet
  • cell phone
  • motor vehicle

and only occasional glimpses at the International Herald Tribune (perhaps the last great newspaper in existence) it would be hard to overestimate the pain of re-entry into the craposphere of the US mainstream media.

Cokie Roberts, this is for you and for anyone else out there who is having a difficult time parsing the difference between “domestic” and “foreign.”

clean energy wind turbines = foreign

bike & pedestrian-friendly cities = foreign

local currency is the kroner and two scoops of ice cream cost the equivalent of $6 because the US dollar is virtually worthless = foreign

God, how I missed the moronic depths of talking head election coverage! Cokie, baby, I could kiss you full on the lips you crazy, stupid woman.

It’s good to be back.

Well, you can’t beat the TP in the good ol’ US of A.

    Welcome home!

    Yeah… I’m sorry.
Boy and I were watching the (network) “coverage” of the Olympics last night, and it nearly turned into a brawl as we all DOVE for the remote —
when the Shrub came on the Tee-Vee.

But we decided: what a great energy policy!
Put him on television, and watch the drain on the grid drop dramatically because everyone’s turned off the tube.

If you want an interesting glimpse of wind turbines nearby head up to Fond du Lac just outside the horicon marsh – TONS of these wind turbines spread throughout the farmer’s fields. Some see it as an eyesore, but I think it is pretty cool. Funny thing is at night they all have red blinking lites (for the planes) and they all seem to go on/off at the same time. Surreal.

I was also just away – in Toronto & Montreal & was bummed about the weak american buck. $1 US = $1 Canadian now… i remember when shopping /eating there was a deal. Now it’s really darn expensive. oh well…

Ten years ago I worked for a wind energy company with turbines in California. Oy – the amount of time we & others in the industry spent begging the Powers That Be to support alternative energy – it would make you scream.

I find these structures to be strikingly elegant and beautiful, so I really don’t understand why many communities object to their placement in the landscape. Even if one finds them unattractive, alternative sources of energy are far less desirable when it comes to their environmental impact. I say, “get over it.”
